Que-1 Differentiate between a republic and a monarchy?

Ans-1 A republic had no kings they were ruled by a group. All decisions were taken by a majority vote.

            The king was the head of a monarchial mahajanpada. Kingship was hereditary in monarchies. The king maintained a large army and he had many sources of revenue.

 Que-2 Explain the terms janapadas and mahajanapadas?

Ans-2 The villages where the Aryans lived were known as ‘Janapadas’

            Large janapadas were called ‘Mahajanapadas’.

 Que-3 What were the main sources of revenue for the kings?

Ans-3 There were many sources of revenue. The king got revenue from the farmers, traders and craftsmen.

 Que.4 What was the name of the old capital of Magadha?

Ans-4 The name of the old capital of magadha was rajagriha.
